NEW MEMBER ORIENTATIONS
A fitness professional will teach you proper use of the
cardiovascular and strength training machines. You’ll be instructed on proper form and technique for a basic exercise program. Great for beginner exercisers, those returning to an exercise program and even experienced exercisers looking to get more out of their workout.

SMART START (01101)
Learn what it takes to have a healthy and active lifestyle. Guided by a wellness professional you will find out how to identify your unique needs and discover ways to overcome obstacles using the S.M.A.R.T. method of goal setting. In this orientation to health and wellness you will be introduced to the many facets of healthy living including basic nutrition; physical activity guidelines; and you will learn a variety of exercises that will help you meet your fitness goals. SMART Start Presents: Nutrition Series
Nutrition is a valuable piece in achieving a health balanced lifestyle but sometimes navigating the food labels, the restaurant menus and the dinner tables isn’t quite so easy. The SMART Start Nutrition Series is a monthly event to bring you nutritional awareness. Events are designed to educate, encourage and empower members to take control of their lives and future health outlook. Watch for monthly events in the YMCA member lobby! STREET SMART SELF DEFENSE FOR WOMEN
This specialized introductory seminar is available for women beginning age 14 and up. Teaches a logical, practical and common sense
approach to self defense. The participants will learn simple,
effective movements which do not require great strength or years of training to perfect. Environmental awareness skills also presented. Minimum class size requirement of 10 participants. Please register at Membership Desk.

BODY COMPOSITION ANALYSIS
A 5-minute assessment conducted by a fitness professional to determine your body’s estimated percentage of fat.

Balance Training for Older Adults
Does it seem increasingly difficult to do the little things? Get up from a chair, keep your balance, turn your head or pick up your grandkids? Functional training for older adults will help you regain your strength, balance, and coordination. Feel twenty years younger!

Walks and Talks
Are you seeking to improve your health and ready to meet new people? Looking for a way to get in shape or ready for a change of scenery from the fitness center and group exercise classes that are a part of your regular routine? Once weekly enjoy walking the YMCA grounds, both indoors and outdoors, and local trails. Walks and Talks is a walking club designed to get you up and moving and the only equipment needed is a comfortable pair of walking shoes!
Day & Time: Wednesday 10:00am-10:25am
Location: Class will meet in the YMCA lobby.
Fee: Full Members: Free

Diabetes Prevention Program
An evidence-based program the YMCA of Delaware is offering in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control. This year-long, evidence-based program is designed to help individuals with pre-diabetes reduce their risk of developing diabetes.
• 12-month long program for individuals with pre-diabetes
• Program is proven to reduce risk of developing the type 2 diabetes by more than half
• Learn skills to lead a healthier lifestyle, including how to eat healthier, increase physical activity, and change your behavior (physical activity is not a part of program)
• Meet one hour per week for 16 core sessions in supportive, group setting led by a lifestyle coach
• After 16 core sessions, groups meet once a month for 6 to 8 months to support their lifestyle changes
• Participants are placed in groups based upon their scheduling and location needs
Fee: $50 for YMCA members / $100 non-YMCA Members
Financial Assistance available for individuals who qualify
