To help us create the safest environment possible with the fewest distractions for lifeguards, instructors, and swimmers, the Brandywine YMCA has instituted an Aquatic Parent Observation Policy. Please pick up a copy from either pool. We ask all parents to sit in the parent observation areas. Please, no children in the observation areas. All spectators are welcome to observe the classes on the last day of class. All classes are held in the South Pool unless otherwise noted. We are unable to provide make-ups for missed lessons. Financial assistance is available; please inquire at the front desk.

SCHEDULES FOR RECREATIONAL/FAMILY SWIM AND LAP SWIMMING are available at the Front Desk and both Front and Back Service Desks as well as on www.ymcade.org. These schedules are subject to change and all changes will be posted.

SWIM POLICIES
Recreational Swim:
All full privilege members are welcome to this open swim. Please enjoy our noodles, toys, and personal flotation devices (life jackets) to enhance your aquatic experience. The use of instructional equipment (barbells and kickboards) is not allowed at this time. Children under age 12 must be supervised by an adult in the pool area at all times. Children wearing red swim bands need to have a parent within arm’s reach while they are swimming.

Family Swim:
This recreational pool time is designated “families only.” Parents need to be in the pool with children. Blue belts, toys, and noodles are provided to create a fun and relaxing family environment.

Adult Recreational Swim:
For those ages 14 and over, the pool is available during this time. Participants may use equipment to provide buoyancy or resistance.

Restricted Swim:
During this swim, only senior adults and those with physical limitations may swim laps or walk in the pool

Lap Swim:
This time is for swimming lengths of the pool. Please see the swimming rules located on the bulletin board on both pool decks. If lap swim is busy, water walkers or joggers may be asked to move into one lane to accommodate the lap swimmers.

Adult Lap Swim:
Please do lengths only! This lap swim is for those lap swimmers over 14 years of age.

Swim Test Policy:
For the safety of our swimmers, we will be swim testing all children under the age of 14 years old. If you do not wish to take the swim test, you will be given a red bracelet and asked to stay in the shallow end of the pool. If you wish to swim in the deep end of the pool, you will need to be able to swim the length of the pool and tread water/float for one minute. We will be keeping records of our test, so you will only need to take the test one time. If you would like to retake the swim test to try and improve, we are happy to retest at any time.
