The Health and Wellness Department of the Brandywine YMCA has adopted the Health at Every Size philosophy. Our personal trainers believe in promoting individually appropriate, enjoyable, life enhancing physical activity, rather than exercise that is solely focused on a goal of weight loss.

SMART START SESSION
(Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic & Time oriented goals)
During this goal setting consultation, a wellness professional will work with you to understand your unique needs and how to overcome obstacles. Together we will discuss ways to help you get started and how to measure success. Not only will S.M.A.R.T. Start help you to get acquainted with our staff and offerings at the YMCA, but it is an excellent opportunity to get your health and wellness questions answered. Ask for a brochure at the front desk.

PERSONAL TRAINING [01602]
We will design a personalized workout based upon your goals. Let us help you increase your level of physical activity by finding movement you enjoy. Ask for a packet at the front desk, complete it, return it, and purchase the amount of hours you want. A personal trainer will contact you to schedule the date(s) and time(s) of your sessions.

HEALTHWISE
Has your physician told you it is necessary for you to begin an exercise program? If you have a medical condition or physical limitation, we want to help you succeed in an inclusive environment by offering you 3 Free Personal Training Sessions. During this program you will work to improve your cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination one step at a time. A doctor’s referral/clearance is necessary. Ask for a packet at the front desk.

STRENGTH TRAINING FOR SENIORS
From the age of 29 onward, we begin to lose bone density, balance and coordination. Our metabolic rate decreases as well. The good news is that there is something we can do about it! Strength training and creating a fitness regime can deter or prevent these issues from occurring. Sessions will teach you how to build your muscle strength, endurance, and increase your mobility. Everyday activities will become easier, posture will improve, and you’ll look and feel great! Pick up an information packet at the front desk.

MASSAGE [01517]
Our licensed massage therapist will be offering a variety of massage techniques including Swedish and Deep Tissue. Massages will be offered at various times of the week based upon the therapist’s availability. Please call the Massage Hotline at 478-9622 ext. 56 for an appointment or information. Please pay at the front desk prior to your massage appointment.

AT LAST LIVABLE WELLNESS [01303]

At Last Livable Wellness is a 7 month total lifestyle program that fully embraces the YMCA’s mind-body-spirit philosophy. The program is offered only twice per year! Look for registration for fall classes in late August. This program is designed for you to explore your emotional, physical, and nutritional health and to understand how each impacts all areas of your life – especially your happiness! Fee includes weekly educational/support classes, personal training guidance, nutritional advice, and insights from our behavioral therapist.
