Welcome to home page of the Walnut Street YMCA Black Achievers.
The Black Achievers Program was created to instill values honesty, caring, responsibility and pride. It is also to recognize the accomplishments of talented and committed African-American men and women for their unheralded successes in business and the community. It pairs minority high school youth with successful adult achievers who, through volunteer service, serve as mentors and role models providing educational, cultural and career guidance.

The Black Achievers program kicks off each year with its Annual Awards Ceremony. This ceremony recognizes the Youth Achievers and those Adult Achievers selected by their companies for achievement, community service and professionalism. We were fortunate to have Susan Taylor, Editor Essence Magazine as our keynote speaker. Ms. Taylor gave an inspirational talk about her career and provided us some "straight up" advice on dealing with issues we will face in our adult and professional lives.
Our Adult Achievers have developed educational and fun workshops for us. This web site was created by the Youth Achievers during the 2005 workshops. Please take some time to review our web site. We're certain you will conclude that the Black Achievers program provides a rich opportunity for both the Youth and Adult Achievers.

The following are a few testimonials from our Youth Achievers:
