LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

B.L.A.S.T. Conference  brings youth leaders and their advisers together to share ideas and information, hone skills and develop new abilities.

Peer Leader Training
teaches communication, decision making, problem solving and team building skills that students can apply in peer intervention to defuse substance abuse, violence and other risk-taking behaviors.  

Peer Mediation Training
teaches trained, experienced Peer Leaders the mediation process and how to use it in their schools. 

Youth in Government  helps teens catch the excitement of shaping the future by learning how government works and what it takes to implement improvements.

POSITIVE LIFE SKILLS

After School Programs
After school programs are available at Conrad Middle and East Side Charter in New Castle County and Woodbridge Middle in Sussex County.   These programs provide homework help, positive life skills training, leadership development and substance abuse prevention programs.

Back on Track serves adjudicated youth assigned to the Department of Services for Children, Youth, and Their Families. Back on Track helps them understand their offense, its impact on the community and ways to prevent its reoccurrence.

Brandywine Social Club  offers camaraderie, recreation, fitness/wellness training, educational workshops and life skills instruction for adults with minimal emotional, mental and/or physical disabilities. 

Bully Prevention  trainings use role play and discussion to increase participants’ understanding of bullying and their ability to handle bullies successfully and to help others deal with bullying effectively.

Communication Skills training involves participants in learning and practicing effective verbal and non-verbal communication techniques.

Conflict Resolution  training features hands-on activities that increase participants’ ability to communicate effectively, solve problems positively and understand and appreciate human differences and similarities.

G.O.A.L. (Group Oriented Activities for Life)  employs community building activities, communication games and problem solving challenges to develop cooperation and conflict resolution skills.

Emergency Services Corp (ESC) 
ESC is a team of AmeriCorps members who commit to a year of service with New Castle County ’s volunteer fire companies, as well as with the New Castle County Office of Emergency Management and the City of Wilmington Fire Marshal ’s Office and Office of Emergency Management.  Become a volunteer firefighter or volunteer to assist your local fire company in other ways.

Kingswood Academy
A partnership between the YMCA Resource Center and Project Stayfree, this program offers positive life skills training, leadership development, and substance abuse prevention programs for high school age students.

Professional Development Workshops for Child Care Providers   
Covers topics such as discipline, helping children handle bullies effectively, communication, stress management, problem solving, and drug and alcohol awareness for adults.

S.E.L.F. (Students Expressing & Listening to Feelings)  is an interactive conflict resolution program which helps students develop skills to prevent and solve problems.

Stress Management  involves participants in learning the symptoms and causes of stress and developing techniques to effectively manage stress.

Team Building  workshops and retreats feature activities that build trust, increase creativity, strengthen current relationships, and forge new working relationships.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION

A.D.P. (Alcohol/Drug Prevention) , an early intervention program for youth, provides them accurate information on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs to help them make healthier decisions.

Awareness and Prevention Trainings for Adults are designed to increase their awareness and understanding of alcohol and drug issues and ways to apply this knowledge.

Pathways
 uses games, role plays and activities to teach youth the effects of alcohol and other drugs and strategies for avoiding their use.

T.I.P.S. (Tobacco Intervention Program for Students)  is a tobacco prevention program designed using the science-based curriculum, Get Real About Tobacco . Using an interactive approach, students learn accurate tobacco information and skills for avoiding tobacco use.

Y.E.L.L. (Youth to Eliminate the Loss of Life)  is a youth safety and leadership organization whose goals are to change attitudes towards underage alcohol and drug use and to promote highway safety and positive decision-making.

Y’z Up!  promotes lifestyle changes among 18 to 25 year olds in Kent and Sussex Counties through developing their decision making and problem solving skills and increasing their understanding of the consequences of binge drinking and drug use.
