S.E.L.F. (Students Expressing and Listening to Feelings)
This unique conflict resolution program uses puppets, activities, and story telling to help children develop skills to prevent and solve problems. Program options include: Feelings and Communication, Consequences and Decision Making, Handling Bullies, Appreciating Differences, and Consequences and Decision Making II: Tobacco. Teachers and adult leaders are provided with follow-up materials to use to integrate the principles of S.E.L.F. in their work with children. Contact the Resource Center for recommendations on which program options will fit your needs. We recommend using the S.E.L.F. program options in the progression outlined below.

For grades K through 5

Each class runs from 35 to 50 minutes to meet the scheduling needs of the school or agency.

Feelings and Communication Students learn two effective communication skills, SOLER and "I messages", and use puppets to practice them. Recommended for K through 5th grade
Consequences and Decision Making Students practice evaluating the consequences of decisions and use puppets to role-play decision-making. Recommended for K through 5th grade
Handling Bullies Students learn techniques for handling bullies effectively and use puppets to practice these techniques. Recommended for 1st through 5th grade
Appreciating Differences Students discover that by viewing differences as special and exciting rather than scary, problems can be prevented. Recommended for 1st through 5th grade
Consequences and Decision Making II : Tobacco Students practice evaluating the consequences of deciding to use tobacco through role-playing situations involving tobacco and decision making. Recommended for 1st through 5th grade
