New in 2011!

Wash houses!
For years, our wash houses have been on our radar for rennovations. In 2010,we had the opportunity to replace the two wash houses in our oldest villages, Sioux and Ute. Now it is time for the mighty Chickasaw village to benefit from this ongoing remodeling effort. While the changes in the Ute and Sioux wash houses were amazing, we have learned a few things along the way that will make the Chickasaw washhouse even better. The Iroquois and Algonquin wash house is slated for remodeling in 2012, at which point all of our villages will enjoy the best bathroom and shower facilities we can offer. The project will begin this spring so it is ready for summer.

tICKWOGH SAILBOATS
Everyone likes new things; they are shiny, fun, and alluring. This year our advanced sailors and racers will get to enjoy two, possibly three shiny new sailboats at Tickwogh, our specialty sailing camp. It has been three years since we opened a carboard box filled with a glistening sailboat inside just waiting for campers to climb on and feel the difference in perfromance; we are just as excited at camp to but them as campers are to sail them. So if wind-powered speed is your cup of tea, Tickwogh is your choice for the summer of 2011. Just a side note the Tickwogh Sailing Camp is for grades 7-10.

NEW ENGINES
This spring we will be purchasing six brand new engines. Two will be placed on ski boats, one at our older campers beach and one at our younger campers beach. The remaining four engines are for sail tenders, the safety and coaching boats our staff utilizes for intermediate and advanced sailing programs at both beaches. The new engines will increase the program quality in the ski and wakeboard programs, and they are also more fuel efficient with fewer emissions, helping us do our part to maintain the Chesapeake Bay.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION
This fall, winter, and spring, Tockwogh staff have been working to revitalize an important program area. Originally, we wanted to redesign our outdoor education program to give students the chance to experience nature first-hand during the school year. The fact is that today's youth do not spend enough time outdoors, so we decided to develop a program that would help meet this growing need. Then it dawned on us. This means that our outdoor education program will improve during the summer too. We will have new resources and activities that allow campers to get even more out of their experience at Tockwogh in 2011. Come ready to get your hands dirty this year!
