Water Wise
Most of you know of our Water Wise Program as a city-wide summer program, but we run all year long! We are ½ way through our School Year Program that consists of both the School Day Academy and Afterschool Academy. We divide the school year into 5 blocks and have students from local Wilmington schools and organizations to our pool once a week for the duration of the block for an hour long lesson. We concentrate on water safety skills and the basic foundations of swimming freestyle and backstroke. The children are assessed and placed into groups that best fit their current level and we go from there!
We feel strongly about how important water safety is to all children and would like to thank our donors, our partnering schools and organizations, and the families of all of our participants for allowing us to make an impact in our community.

If you have a school group, afterschool program, or community program that is interested in participating in the Water Wise Program, please contact Cindy Kresge, Water Wise Coordinator, at 302-472-9622 ext.14 or ckresge@ymcade.org.

If you are interested in supporting our mission of social responsibility and would like to make a contribution, please contact John Pierson, Director of Annual Giving, at 302-571-6962 or jpierson@ymcade.org.

During the first half of the 2010- 2011 school year, we have partnered with 7 different schools and organizations to provide free swim lessons to over 300 youth of the City of Wilmington. Some of these organizations include:

Shortlidge Elementary School
Sharon Temple
Highlands Elementary School
Downtown YMCA School’s Out
St. Michael’s School Guardian Angel Project

We are pleased to announce that Water Wise is expanding! Keeping in track with the mission of the newly re-purposed
Walnut Street facility, we are able to offer Water Wise sessions open to the community beginning this winter!

• Participants are asked to arrive at least 5 minutes before class starts.
