The YMCA Resource Center, which was previously located in the Community Service Building, will be moving to the Walnut Street YMCA as a part of the new Walnut Street YMCA. Current Resource Center programs will continue in addition to new programs at the Walnut Street YMCA in order to fulfill the mission of providing community service, education, and skill development in the areas of substance abuse prevention, juvenile justice, socialization for the disabled, fire service, life skills, manhood development, and teen programs to support youth, encourage healthy lifestyles, and ensure social responsibility.

Project Stay Free
Project Stay Free is an intensive community-based supervision program for pre and post adjudicated youth ages 8 to 18 years. The program serves as an alternative to incarceration and residential placement.
GED Program

Youth in Government

Youth in Government is a state wide model legislative program. Under the direction of an advisor, participants begin meeting in the winter at a school or at their local YMCA or community center. During these meetings, participants discuss their passion, create model legislation, learn parliamentary procedure, hone their public speaking skills and meet friends. In the spring, the participants come together for a three day model legislative conference in Dover and “take over” the House and Senate chambers. During this three day conference, ten participants are elected to represent Delaware at a six day national model legislative conference in North Carolina. Youth to Eliminate Loss of Life
Youth to Eliminate Loss of Life (Y.E.L.L.) is a state wide program that
supports Y.E.L.L. chapters in schools. The mission of Y.E.L.L. is to reduce death and injury of Delaware’s youth. Y.E.L.L. chapter activities vary according to school and student participation; some activities include coordinating red ribbon week,safety events, pep rallies that convey the message of making responsible decisions, seat belt check points, attending Y.E.L.L. conference, etc. More information can be found at www.yellde.org.

Emergency Services Corps
The New Castle County Emergency Services Corps (ESC) was created as a partnership between New Castle County Government, New Castle County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association, AmeriCorps, and the YMCA Resource Center of Delaware in order to recruit volunteer firefighters and increase awareness among New Castle County residents about volunteer opportunities in the fire service. The program places AmeriCorps members in participating volunteer fire companies and other emergency services agencies, where they gain experience in emergency services while recruit volunteers. ESC members conduct programs in schools and community centers designed to teach the public about fire safety issues, emergency medical practices, and disaster preparedness.

Life skills program for adjudicated boys ages 14-18.

Brandywine Peer Court
Brandywine Peer Court is an alternative to traditional school discipline for Brandywine School District high school students. Student offenders participate in an Alternative-to-Suspension program for the days that they would have been suspended out of school where students complete assignments and participate in positive life skills sessions. Student offenders then participate in a Peer Court hearing, where they receive sanctions from a jury of their peers.

Schools-based programs
Programs include Peer Leadership, Peer Mediation, communication, stress management, SELF (Students Expressing and Listening to Feelings) and Building a Bully-Proof School. Students participate in 45-minute interactive classroom sessions where they learn skills and strategies and have a chance to practice these skills through role plays, skits, games, and puppet role-playing.

Back on Track
In cooperation with the Delaware Division of Youth Rehabilitative Services,(DYRS) The YMCA Resource Center provides Level II Probation services for youth. This program, titled “ Back On Track Program”, serves youth who have been adjudicated and referred to DYRS for probation. The program provides effective life skill education to help youth understand the nature of their offense, recognize its impact on the community, and prevent reoccurrence. Back On Track also provides educational community service sources for the youth.

Residency & Counseling
The New Castle County Family Court Mental Health Diversion Program is a program funded through the Delaware Criminal Justice Council by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention, Juvenile Accountability Block Grant. The program was designed to accommodate juveniles and families with mental health services versus juvenile detention. The Brandywine Social Club (BSC) in partnership with Autism Delaware is a 30+ year old program started by Brandywine-based parents to provide a social outlet for their adult children with minimal disabilities as defined by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities. Responsible for YMCA Men’s Resident program by connecting the residents to social services and other benefits and covers all partnerships pertaining to counseling.
