Adam Braun – Competitive Aquatic Director Adam is responsible for overseeing the competitive swim program including the Western Wahoos swim team, the Western YMCA lesson program, and the Western YMCA Masters team. Adam comes to our community from Columbus, Ohio where he graduated from Ohio State in 2006. While at Ohio State, Adam completed his major in Sport and Leisure Studies, Coaching and Management and received a minor in Business. In addition to his studies, Adam was a four time varsity letterer for Ohio State University Swim Team and a three time Academic All Big Ten Athlete. Adam grew up in the Detroit, Michigan area and swam competitively for his local YMCA while representing his YMCA team at YMCA Nationals for four years. Most recently Adam has been working as a Human Resource Director for Cincinnati Pool Management where he was responsible for the staffing of over 400 seasonal employees which included over 40 community pools in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky communities. Adam brings to our program a huge knowledge of competitive swimming and a committed passion to aquatics so that he may provide quality programming and opportunities for all members in this community.
Ryan Schultz – Head Coach With over 10 years of coaching experience, Ryan has coached swimmers to YMCA Winterfest, Districts, and YMCA National meets as well as Junior Olympics and Middle Atlantic Zones. He previously coached our Wahoos from 1996 through 1999 and returned to Delaware in 2006 when he resumed his coaching role at our Western Family YMCA. His long history with the Western Family YMCA began when he started swimming in 1987 at the age of eight years old. He continued with the team through his senior year of high school, while representing the Wahoos four times at YMCA Nationals. After attending Tower Hill School he swam at Emory University in Atlanta, GA graduating in 2001. His past professional experience includes working for The Coca-Cola Company and Bank of America. In addition to coaching he is currently an insurance broker and benefits consultant at Kelly & Associates Insurance Group
Christine Nutini – Assistant Coach Christine has been an integral part of the Western YMCA Staff since the summer of 2004 and coaching staff since 2007. She has coached our mini, bronze, and gold groups. She also has extensive experience as a swim lesson instructor. Her swimming experience includes being a member of our Western Wahoos Swim team and a member of the Sanford high school swim team. She went on to swim at Elizabethtown College and has since transferred to the University of Delaware.
Saunya Mapes - Assistant Coach Saunya is a first year coach with the Western Wahoos. She grew up in Sanford, Maine where she swam for the Sanford YMCA Titans for eleven years. Saunya was captain of the Sanford High School swim team for two years and swam for the University of Vermont Catamounts where she qualified for the ACE and ECAC championships. She is a recent UVM graduate and currently continuing her studies at the University of Delaware in nutrition and health promotion. With a passion for swimming and six years of swim instructing experience she is thrilled to be joining the Wahoos for their 2009-2010 season!
Jodie Delesio - Assistant Coach Jodie's history with the Wahoos swimming program began at age 11 and she went on to become a multiple-time long and short course YMCA National qualifier. Jodie began her coaching career with the Wahoos summer team from 1996-1999 as well as working as a swim lesson instructor for the YMCA. After receiving her nursing degree from the University of Delaware in 2002 she moved out of the area to work at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She has just recently moved back to Delaware and is currently working as an RN specializing in oncology at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center at Christiana Hospital. After taking a break from swimming to focus on her career, Jodie is excited to have rejoined the Wahoos swim team as a member of the coaching staff.
Crystal Sheehan - Assistant Coach This is Crystal’s first season with the Western YMCA and she is very excited about becoming apart of the coaching staff and working with new swimmers. Crystal began coaching three years ago in the summer with the Oaklands Swim Club and has continued to coach the past two summers as head coach for North Star Pool. During the winter she has coached with Team Delaware for two years, focusing on the developmental and gold groups. She swam during high school for Padua Academy where she was honored to be a team captain her senior year. Her swimming career also includes multiple years swimming for Team Delaware. Crystal is currently a junior at the University of Delaware pursuing a degree in Biology Education.
Rob Lynch - Assistant Coach Rob stated coaching swimming in 1996 for the Brandywine YMCA where he helped create the mini team. During his 5 years at Brandywine he worked with and coached all age groups and abilities. Rob was a four-time varisty swimmer at Salesianum High School where he went on to become an assistant swim coach from 1996-2001. He currently is working at the Melmark School as an Aquatic Specialist. He is excited to be back coaching at the YMCA with the Wahoos and he is looking forward to a great year.
Kelsie Pike - Assitant Coach
Kelsie has not only been a coach with the Western Wahoos since the summer of 2008, but she is still swimming competitively with the team. Kelsie became a Wahoo when she was seven and has swam every season since then. Her favorite stroke is breaststroke, and In 2009, she was a YMCA Long Course National qualifier in the 200 breastroke. She has also swam every winter at YMCA Districts and every summer SSL championships since she was nine. She swam for St. Mark's high school for 4 years and plans to attend York College of PA next year where she will swim for the Spartans. Kelsie primarily coaches the Mini's and enjoys seeing how quickly they develop their skills. She is excited to be coaching again this season.
