YMCA
of Delaware Heritage Society
For more than 115 years, the YMCA of Delaware has been a faithful
friend to the kids and families of our community. Since our beginnings,
we’ve had a vision of being an organization that enriches
the lives of young people in spirit, mind and body. In time, we
grew to include programs and services that meet the needs of people
of all ages in YMCA facilities that serve as centers for personal,
family and community development. Over the years, individuals
committed to the mission of the YMCA have volunteered their time
and resources to help build and maintain YMCA of Delaware facilities.
For many, that commitment extended beyond their own lifetime through
gifts made from their estates to the YMCA of Delaware endowment.
Today, the influence of these visionary individuals is still felt
in our facilities throughout Delaware. Their gifts have touched
lives for generations. Their legacy is celebrated through the
YMCA Heritage Society.
What is the YMCA Endowment?
The YMCA of Delaware Endowment Fund provides a secure, stable
foundation upon which the YMCA of Delaware can build its future.
Gifts to the Fund are invested, allowing the YMCA to use the interest
to support programs that benefit kids and families in our community.
The breadth of programs offered by the YMCA is extensive. A small
sampling includes before and after school care, summer day camp,
sports, swim lessons, leadership programs for teens, family programs
and special programs for at-risk youth.
The
members of the YMCA of Delaware’s Heritage Society are as
diverse as our great, but humble, state. All members, however,
share a common belief in the need to build a stronger future through
the work of the YMCA. Their vision for the YMCA of Delaware and
the health of our community extends beyond the needs of today.
They recognize that the YMCA will play a critical role in the
lives of Delaware families, so they are investing in that future
through outright and planned gifts to the YMCA’s endowment
fund. You can become a member of the YMCA Heritage Society by
including the YMCA of Delaware in your will or estate plans or
by making an outright gift of $5,000 or more. The YMCA of Delaware
celebrates Heritage Society members and their commitment to the
future in a number of ways:
- An
invitation to an annual dinner celebrating the Society and its
legacy of support;
-
Recognition in the Heritage Society roster listed in the YMCA
of Delaware’s annual report;
-
A free subscription to Legacy, a regular update of YMCA activities,
with stories saluting Heritage Society members and valuable
advice on planned giving;
-
A free subscription to Discovery, a magazine of innovation and
inspiration for volunteers from YMCA
of the USA.

Many
Ways To Give
Outright Gifts of cash, stock or other securities can
be made to the YMCA of Delaware Endowment Fund. Many donors find
that a contribution of appreciated stock or securities can provide
income tax savings since their value for tax purposes may be set
at their present value – not their cost basis.
Testamentary Gifts are gifts to the YMCA of Delaware
Endowment Fund made through your will, revocable living trust
or death benefits from life insurance. These gifts can include
a sum of money, specified securities, real property or a portion
of your estate’s assets such as an IRA. Your estate will
not pay death taxes on these gifts.
Gifts of Life Insurance are made by transferring
ownership of a life insurance policy to the YMCA of Delaware during
your lifetime. There may be an income-tax deduction available
for this gift.
A Charitable Remainder Trust gift allows you
to leave property in a trust to the YMCA of Delaware with income
from the trust going to you or a beneficiary during their lifetime
or for a term of years. You receive a charitable tax deduction
for making the gift during your lifetime. If the Charitable Remainder
Trust gift is made in your estate, there can be estate tax savings.
Pooled-Income Fund contributions also provide
income for you because your gift is invested with other pooled-fund
contributions. Pooled-income fund gifts are often most attractive
to younger donors and those with smaller sums of money and property
to give.
Charitable Gift Annuities can provide a life
income for you and a loved one in return for a gift to the YMCA.
The Charitable Gift Annuity has special benefits for older donors
and gifts can be made for more modest sums
