Media Alert: YMCA OF DELAWARE PRESENTS ANNUAL BLACK ACHIEVERS EVENT

October 18, 2017

WHAT: Members of the press are invited to join the YMCA of Delaware for the “Pre Show” and “Main Event” at the 29th Annual Black Achievers Dinner and Awards Ceremony. A college readiness and career awareness program, the Black Achievers program encourages young people to develop and pursue educational and career goals with the assistance and guidance of African-American mentors from diverse career fields.

Keynote Speaker Jermaine J. Jones will make an appearance prior to the dinner at the Walnut Street YMCA to deliver an inspirational speech to local Wilmington children and teenagers, who use the Y for after school programming.

Mr. Jones, the Founder and CEO of Brothers Making a Difference (B.M.A.D), a nonprofit organization aimed at enriching the lives of youth academically, culturally and professionally. Growing up in Irvington, NJ Jermaine witnessed his parents’ physical, mental and financial turmoil, as is the case with many of the youth he serves today. Struggling to find his purpose, Jermaine accepted an opportunity to work as a mentor with the Big Brothers, Big Sisters Organization, which he did for thirteen years. Jermaine’s mentoring catalyzed using his challenges and life lessons as a tool to motivate his mentees. It was then that his gift to motivate, inspire and uplift was discovered, giving birth to the formation of Brothers Making a Difference.
