The News Journal: Newark YMCA Celebrates 50 Years Renovation

Unveiled on Friday, the Newark branch now has a new expanded entrance and walkways for better traffic flow, updated member check-in station as well as a digital information screen to broadcast YMCA events, health information and upcoming programs.

There is also an improved family play area with an Exergames interactive gaming wall and a self-serve coffee and tea station in the lobby with seating and plug-in capabilities so people can do work or homework.

Those renovations add to the Western YMCA’s offerings. The facility also has two indoor pools a functional training center complete with hanging bars and over 80 group exercise classes weekly.

To kick-off the weekend and celebration, the facility is hosting a community movie night, 60s dance and open swim at its indoor pool from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday. There will be tours as well.

The expansion was designed by Bob Grove and the RG Architect team, which is based in Middletown.
