Wilmington, Delaware—From August 6 to 14, 2025, nineteen Delaware teens and ten adult chaperones participated in the YMCA of Delaware’s Global Teens program, traveling from Lima to Cusco, Peru, for an immersive cultural, educational, and service-learning experience.
During the nine-day journey, teens led forums, participated in hands-on service projects, and delivered school supplies to underserved children, strengthening global connections and supporting education initiatives. A unique STEM opportunity allowed students to explore Peru’s agricultural supply chain, from “picking to packing”, learning how innovation and teamwork drive international food production and distribution.
The group also left a lasting mark in Independencia, painting and cleaning a community center that serves more than 500 families with meals, childcare, and youth sports programs. Beyond service, teens explored Peru’s rich history and culture, touring Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and Lima, and meeting the Director of Tourism in Cusco.
“This program not only gave our teens a chance to see the world, but also to change it,” said Anesha Law, Community Executive of the Walnut Street YMCA. “They returned with a deeper appreciation for community, culture, and the power of working together to make a difference.”
