At the YMCA, we’re committed to improving our community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

That’s why we offer a wide variety of community programs designed to help nurture the potential of kids, help you live healthier, and support our neighbors who need us most.

Diabetes Prevention Program

Our Diabetes Prevention Program is for individuals who are at risk for prediabetes. It is a group-based program designed to help participants learn strategies for eating healthier, increasing physical activity and making other changes to improve their health and well-being. Healthy Weight and Your Child

Healthy Weight and your Child is a 4-month evidence-based program for children with obesity. With support from their family, this program empowers kids ages 7 – 13 to reach a healthy weight and live a healthier lifestyle.

The residence program at the Central YMCA location provides housing for men 18 years and older. The residents are provided with a dorm-style room, at least one free meal on weekdays as well as access to an on-site Social Service Director. To be eligible for our residence program, you must complete an application and meet certain guidelines. For more information, contact Dara Westerman at (302)571-6950. Download a Housing Application.

The LIVESTRONG program supports the increasing number of cancer survivors who find themselves on the journey from completing their treatment to feeling physically and emotionally strong enough to return to normal life. These small group sessions are facilitated by certified YMCA instructors who assist participants in a variety of physical activity options including cardiovascular conditioning, strength training, balance and flexibility. Take on Summer

The YMCA of Delaware Take On Summer program offers youth, ages 12 – 18, who live in the State of Delaware, free summer memberships to access the Y’s fitness facilities, swimming pools, as well as participate in art activities, games and social events. The program also includes STEM-focused activities, music opportunities, cooking, photography, additional field trips, and comprehensive workforce development workshops. Free lunch, as well as other meals, will also be provided at some of the locations. Please contact your local YMCA for details.

Water Wise

We believe that every child should have the opportunity to learn how to swim. Free of charge, thanks to generous donations, our Water Wise program teaches basic swimming skills and safety around water to youth between the ages 3 – 17.
