Newark, Delaware – The Western Family YMCA is proud to announce its inaugural Mental Health Fair on Friday, May 16th, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This impactful community event fosters open conversations about mental health while providing valuable resources, support, and healing connections in a welcoming, inclusive environment.
With mental wellness more important than ever, the Western Family YMCA is committed to creating a supportive space where individuals and families can learn, connect, and feel empowered to care for their emotional well-being.
- According to the Delaware Women Status Report (September 2024), more than 25% of Delaware’s population lives in areas with limited access to mental health professionals.
- A December 2024 article in Delaware Today further highlights the urgency, stating that “Delaware’s youth are struggling more than ever with mental health issues.”
In response, the Y is stepping up to be part of the solution, because a healthier community starts with a healthier mind.
“Our goal is to break the stigma around mental health by bringing our community together in support and understanding,” said Francisco Zambrano, Community Executive Director at the Western Family YMCA. “We want everyone who attends to leave feeling more informed, more connected, and more comfortable prioritizing their mental and emotional wellness.”
The Mental Health Fair is open to the community, and all are welcome. The event will feature educational sessions, mindfulness activities, and expert-led wellness classes throughout the day.
Local organizations are scheduled to offer resources, screenings, and support services for various mental health needs including the Latin American Community Center, Delaware Quitline, The Hispanic American Association of Delaware, Delaware Nature Society, the University of Delaware, and the National Alliance for Eating Disorders.
“We believe in the power of community and education to break down the stigma surrounding mental health,” says Dr. Linda Santoro, R.N., Ph.D., with the National Alliance for Eating Disorders. “Events like the Mental Health Fair provide a vital opportunity for individuals and families to connect with resources, find support, and feel seen. We’re proud to stand alongside the YMCA and other organizations committed to promoting healing, hope, and mental well-being for all.”
