Brandywine Social Club

At the Brandywine YMCA, we believe that everyone deserves a place to belong—and for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), the Brandywine Social Club is exactly that place.

The Brandywine Social Club meets 3–4 times a month, where members come together at the Brandywine YMCA for fun activities like games, swimming, workouts, snacks, and plenty of laughs. But it’s so much more than that. Members also enjoy outings to dinner, Blue Rocks games, movie nights, volunteering events, and summer pool parties at the Hanby Outdoor Center. These activities foster friendship, connection, and the kind of support that can only come from a community that cares.

For adults with IDD, socialization isn’t just a fun pastime—it’s essential for emotional wellness, confidence-building, and developing life skills. Most importantly, it provides a true sense of belonging.

Founded in 1973 by parents of adult children with disabilities, the Brandywine Social Club fulfills the YMCA mission through its focus on cultivating human potential, self-esteem, and dignity. Originally operating under Jewish Family Services, the YMCA of Delaware has proudly run Brandywine Social Club since 1987.
