Jennifer Bromwell is used to sweat.
She takes Central YMCA’s strength and conditioning class almost every week during her lunch hour. So she’s familiar with tough workouts.
But she had never experienced anything like its performance fitness studio before.
“I love it,” she said. “I was sore for three days.”
The downtown Wilmington location opened its new studio on Wednesday, which was once an old squash court. It’s equipped with Olympic weight stations, rowers, battle ropes, wall balls, kettlebells.
The studio is the first of its kind for YMCA of Delaware, officials said. The trainers wanted to create a private space for their clients and small workout classes.
Unlike other workout areas throughout the Y, the studio includes a strip of turf, where members can push a weight sled and run sprints. It also features a VertiMax, a piece of equipment often seen in physical therapist’s offices.
