Sussex Family YMCA Celebrates Juneteenth

Special presentation by Representative Stell Parker Selby

Rehoboth, Delaware – The Sussex Family YMCA is inviting the community to celebrate Juneteenth at the YMCA on June 19th, 2023. The branch will be open to the community for free all day. Guests are welcome to stop in to work out in the fitness center, swim in the indoor pool, try a free group exercise class, enjoy a cookout with games, and more.

Additionally, at 11 AM there will be a special YMCA Juneteenth presentation. Local State Representative Stell Parker Selby will share her family’s history of living in Sussex County, the impact the Emancipation Proclamation of 1862 had on her ancestors, and her lived experience having attended a segregated elementary school in Milton. Rep. Parker Selby will also share her personal experience with integration in Sussex County during the Civil Rights era and how she worked to receive her BA in Sociology, became a teacher, a principal, and eventually an HR administrator for the Cape Henlopen School District. Elected to office in 2022, Rep. Parker Selby is a strong advocate for civil and human rights and a champion for healthcare and education issues.
