Wilmington, Delaware – As demand for STEM skills continues to rise, the Walnut Street YMCA is stepping up to spark excitement and expand access to hands-on learning. On Saturday, May 3, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, the YMCA will host STEM Day, a free, public event packed with interactive science, technology, engineering, and math activities for youth and families.
From robotics challenges and coding stations to live science experiments and engineering demos, attendees will experience the thrill of discovery while building skills for the future. The goal: to inspire curiosity, open doors to potential careers, and make STEM fun and approachable for learners of all ages.
“STEM Day is all about creating opportunities for young people to explore, ask questions, and get excited about what’s possible,” said Anesha Law, Community Executive Director at the Walnut Street YMCA. “It’s a chance for families to connect through learning and for kids to see themselves as future scientists, engineers, or coders. By sparking their curiosity early, we can help them build confidence and show them that they belong in spaces where innovation and discovery happen.”
Why STEM Matters
- Rapid Job Growth: STEM jobs are projected to grow nearly twice as fast as other occupations through 2033 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).
- Early Exposure Benefits: Kids who engage in STEM by age 13 are twice as likely to pursue STEM careers (National Science Foundation).
Led by YMCA staff in partnership with board members passionate about youth development and STEM education, STEM Day promises a vibrant, hands-on environment where learning comes to life.
