ABC 47 (WMDT) – YMCA To Offer Program For Cancer Survivors

October 7, 2017

DELAWARE – The Sussex County YMCA is offering a 12-week program for those living with cancer or are cancer survivors at no charge.

The health and wellness program is called LiveStrong at the YMCA, in partnership between Y USA, and the Live Strong Foundation.

This program for cancer survivors has taken root in some YMCA’s across the country, and was piloted at locations in northern Delaware with huge success we’re told.

Live Strong will meet twice a week beginning in late October with times for sharing, cardio, strength, flexibility and balance.

Participants will be reassessed after the 12-week program to see what progress was made.

“There’s so much research to show being part of an exercise program is a value to people even in treatment during their cancer recovery and post cancer obviously exercise is great for everyone so we’re hoping this is a program that everyone will jump on,” said Lori Walden-Warden, trainer at the Sussex YMCA.
