YMCA Receives Certificate of Appreciation for Serving Meals to Children

Last summer the Walnut Street and Central YMCAs piloted an initiative to serve meals to children throughout the summer. Each weekend they provided a healthy meal that included whole wheat chicken pizza, carrots, an apple and milk. They also opened their doors for the community to enjoy the use of the pool and saw 75-100 kids eat each week. They hope to expand this offering to other branches or community locations this year!
They received a Certificate of Appreciation for their efforts from the USDA “in recognition of their support of the USDA Food and Nutrition Summer Food Service Program by serving meals to children on weekends and reaching under-served groups of children and teens in two of their summer YMCA sites in Wilmington, Delaware.
