New Facility Offers A Better Opportunity To Serve The Local Community
Wilmington, Delaware, January 12, 2019 – Today, the Brandywine YMCA, located at 3 Mount Lebanon Road in Wilmington, DE, is hosting an open house and grand opening to celebrate the completion of the building expansion project. The free event is open to the public and includes many activities for kids, families, and individuals. Additionally, a special ceremony to unveil a donor wall and recognize individuals and organizations that supported the project will take place.
Activities during the event will include:
- Tours of the facility: NEW youth fitness center, NEW babysitting room, NEW pre-school rooms, NEW fitness center, NEW cycling room, NEW movement studio
- Games in the pool (duck pluck)
- Family Zumba
- Arts and crafts – kids can make their lasting mark by painting their handprints on the wall
- Give-a-ways include: one-year YMCA memberships, a free week of summer camp, free swim lessons and more. Plus, the first 200 people to attend the event will receive a free shirt.
- Live radio remote with WSTW’s Nancy Johnson
- Non-YMCA members are welcome to try the Y for free all day. If you join the Y in January, you pay no joiner fee.
“At the Y, we transform lives every day, whether it’s supporting youth through enrichment programs, assisting individuals on their health and wellness journey, or advocating for those in our community who need us most, said Linda Risk, Executive Director of the Brandywine YMCA. “With our expansion project now complete, the Brandywine Y is better positioned to meet the changing needs of our local community and today’s families.”
The enhanced facility now includes 19,000 square feet of brand new space on the second floor that boasts a fitness center, movement studio, new cardio, strength and adaptive fitness equipment, and an outdoor second floor terrace. On the first floor, the Brandywine Y now has a new youth fitness center, new babysitting room, new pre-school rooms, a new cycling room, and an additional movement studio. Additionally, the facility allows more space for the Y’s evidence-based programs including Diabetes Prevention, Healthy Weight and Your Child, as well as, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA.
