Community ribbon-cutting on October 27 celebrates the latest facility improvement following the opening of a new NinjaZone earlier this year
Dover, Del. — The YMCA of Delaware and the Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce (CDCC) invite community leaders and the public to celebrate the grand reopening of the Dover YMCA’s newly renovated fitness center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, October 27, at 10 a.m. The renovation marks the latest in a series of facility improvements designed to enhance the member experience and expand opportunities for health, wellness, and connection throughout Kent County.
The celebration will include remarks from YMCA and local leaders, followed by “Crocktoberfest”, a community potluck from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public, and community members are invited to visit the Dover YMCA throughout the day.
The renovated fitness floor features a modern layout and new strength and cardio equipment, complemented by the YMCA’s wellness team, personal training, stretch therapy, small-group training and group exercise opportunities.
The renovation builds on the Dover YMCA’s ongoing investment in its facilities and programs. In April, the Y opened a new NinjaZone, giving children opportunities to develop strength, coordination and confidence through movement and play. Together, these improvements reflect the YMCA’s commitment to providing an exceptional member experience while meeting the evolving needs of the Kent County community.
“At the Dover YMCA, we’re more than a gym. We’re a place where people build relationships, find belonging and improve their health, regardless of their background or financial circumstances,” said John Rice, Dover YMCA Community Executive Director. “Investments like our renovated fitness center and new NinjaZone help us create welcoming spaces where individuals and families can thrive. Partnerships with organizations like the CDCC also help us strengthen connections across our community.”
“The CDCC is always happy to partner with John and his team at our Dover YMCA to provide community connections and access to resources that will help them continue the good work they are doing,” said Dr. Dina Vendetti, CDCC President. “We are very proud of what they are accomplishing not only in their building, but in our community. Their work provides valuable opportunities to families in our town that enable them to learn, to be healthy, and to grow as persons. The results of this work have a significant and lasting impact on our whole community right now- and for years to come.”
A Growing Impact Across Kent County
In 2026, the Dover YMCA has continued to address critical community needs through programs that promote healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility. So far this year, the Y has served:
- More than 80 adults through chronic disease prevention programs.
- 240 youth through free water safety programming.
- 175 children through summer camp experiences.
The Dover YMCA also offers Community Health programs such as LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, the Diabetes Prevention Program, and Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring to help individuals manage health conditions, reduce health risks, and build healthier habits.
Recognizing that cost can be a barrier to participation, the YMCA of Delaware’s Open Doors Financial Assistance program provides income-based assistance to help individuals and families access memberships, child care, summer camp, swim lessons, and youth programs. This commitment helps ensure more Dover and Kent County residents can access opportunities that strengthen their health, well-being, and quality of life.
The October 27 celebration gives residents a chance to experience the Dover YMCA firsthand, connect with community partners, and learn more about the programs and resources that help Kent County thrive.
