Jovan L. Custis Named Middletown YMCA Community Executive Director

Middletown, Delaware – After an extensive search, the YMCA of Delaware is pleased to announce Jovan L. Custis as the new Community Executive Director of the Middletown Family YMCA. Custis brings more than nine years of YMCA leadership experience and a strong background in community engagement, youth development, and branch operations to the First State.

Most recently, Custis served with the Y in Central Maryland, where he oversaw a facility serving nearly 21,000 members and a team of 180 full and part-time staff.

In addition to his branch leadership experience, Custis served as Chair of the association’s African American Resource Network and has contributed to the YMCA’s Young Men Thriving initiative. His commitment to community leadership and service has also earned him numerous leadership and community service awards.

As Community Executive Director, Custis will lead the Middletown Family YMCA and its team while strengthening the Y’s impact throughout the growing Middletown community. The Y offers a broad range of programs and services focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, including youth and family programs, preschool and school-age care, summer camp, aquatics, fitness, sports and enrichment programs, and community events.

I look forward to getting to know the Middletown community, working alongside the Y’s dedicated staff and volunteers, and building upon the strong foundation already in place.”

The Middletown Family YMCA features a state-of-the-art fitness center, full-size gymnasium, indoor and outdoor pools, outdoor courts, playground, STEM room, and spaces for group exercise and community programming. The Y also provides free drop-in babysitting for children ages 6 weeks through 11 years for members in Kids’ Club.

With a focus on strengthening relationships and expanding the Y’s impact, Custis will work alongside staff, volunteers, members, donors, and community partners to advance the YMCA’s mission to empower youth, foster healthy living, and promote strong communities.
