The YMCA of Delaware Announces the 2019 Annual Campaign

Wilmington, Delaware, March 11, 2019 – The YMCA of Delaware is launching its annual campaign to help ensure people throughout Delaware have access to the YMCA, its community programs, and valuable resources. Every day, the YMCA of Delaware plays a vital role in supporting various community needs including early childhood education, healthy weight, diabetes prevention, food insecurity, safety around water and closing the achievement gap.

This year, the YMCA of Delaware hopes to raise $2.1 million dollars. Funds raised will be used to support signature programs and provide financial assistance for families, senior citizens and individuals to ease the cost of camps, childcare and membership.

“Wherever you go, thousands of people know the Y, but many do not know the full impact the Y has on our community,” said Deborah Bagatta-Bowles, Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA of Delaware. “The Y helps get people back on the path to good health and recover from illness, provides workforce development opportunities for youth and supports working families. Thanks to all of our donors, we are working to transform lives and our community together,” she added.

In 2018, the YMCA of Delaware awarded nearly $5.5 million dollars in financial assistance to its members and program participants. Additionally, last year charitable gifts from YMCA donors made it possible for 16,536 youth to participate in YMCA out of school enrichment programs including Youth In Government, Black Achievers, Teen Leader Clubs, Summer Camp, Sports and more. The Y also served more than 150,000 free and nutritious meals and snacks to children in before and after school care.
