New Middletown Family YMCA Set To Open On September 18th

Middletown, Delaware – The YMCA of Delaware is pleased to announce the Middletown Family YMCA will open its new facility on Monday, September 18th. The project, which would not be possible without significant support from the town of Middletown and the State of Delaware, will have the power to fuel economic development, improve community health outcomes, empower youth, and bring people from all walks of life together.

Middletown is one of the fastest-growing communities in Delaware, and the Y anticipates serving 15,000 individuals annually through membership, community-based programs, before and after school enrichment, youth sports, and summer camp. The Y will bring 300 new, local jobs to the Middletown area, providing a workforce development pathway for many first-time job seekers.

The Middletown Family YMCA’s new location is 202 E. Cochran Street in Middletown, Delaware. The brand new 56,000 square-foot facility will be open Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. – 9 p.m., 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. on weekends. It features:

  • State-of-the art fitness center
  • Full-sized gymnasium lined for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball
  • Indoor pool (Outdoor pool and splash pad also included)

Adults will find an abundance of group exercise options such as Zumba, Bodypump and Cycling. Active Older Adult programs feature both land and aquatics exercise classes, while the Young At Heart Social Club brings community members together with various activities such as painting and group lunches.

Another highlight of the new Middletown Family YMCA is the indoor play structure in the Kids Adventure Zone, the only one of its kind at a YMCA of Delaware branch. Our Kids Zone gives parents a free babysitting option while they work out.

The YMCA is accepting of everyone and features more than a dozen pieces of Adaptive Fitness equipment for our members with diverse abilities. The indoor pool is accessible via ramp with a gradual decline to enter the water at ease.

Additionally, the Middletown YMCA features an outdoor wellness space, made possible by the State of Delaware, with two full-sized basketball courts (open to the community), six pickleball courts (4 open to the community, two operated by the Y), a splash park adjacent to the Silver Lake Pool, and multiple outdoor playground options.

“The YMCA of Delaware is excited to expand its footprint in the Middletown area, with hopes of serving as a community hub and second home to local children, families, and residents from all walks of life,” said Linda Risk, YMCA of Delaware Chief Operating Officer. “The Y is known for bringing people together and providing a sense of belonging while we all strive to reach our full potential. We look forward to supporting family and economic stability, improving individual and community wellness, and making sure our youth in Middletown continue on a pathway to success.”

The YMCA will never turn anyone away due to financial need. It is anticipated that the new Middletown Y will provide over $500,000 annually in financial assistance for membership and programs.
