New Western Family Y Comm. Exec. Director

YMCA of Delaware Welcomes Matthew Dolamore as Community Executive Director of the Western Family YMCA

NEWARK, DE — The YMCA of Delaware is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Dolamore as the new Community Executive Director of the Western Family YMCA. Dolamore, a seasoned nonprofit leader with deep experience in community engagement and program innovation, began his new role this month.

Dolamore joins the YMCA of Delaware after serving for six years as Director of the Esperanza Center, a 62-year-old multiservice community hub within Catholic Charities of Baltimore. In that role, he led strategy, operations, program design, and a team of more than 40 staff members delivering coordinated healthcare, legal services, education, and family support services. He previously directed national initiatives at Global Refuge, where he modernized human services programs and data systems across a nationwide network of nonprofit partners.

“Matthew brings a powerful combination of mission-driven leadership, community-building experience, and a deep commitment to strengthening families,” said Carolan Cross, Community Vice President, YMCA of Delaware. “At the Western Family YMCA, he will focus on building strong relationships with staff, members, volunteers, and community partners; strengthening operations and fostering cross-collaboration; and driving program impact and innovation. We are thrilled to welcome him to the team.”

A lifelong YMCA member, Dolamore is passionate about creating welcoming, trauma-informed environments where individuals and families can thrive. His leadership style centers on empowering staff and community members to realize their potential and fostering spaces where neighbors of all backgrounds feel supported and connected.

“I am excited to join the Western Family YMCA and look forward to building meaningful relationships across this vibrant community,” Dolamore said. “The Y has played a role in my life since childhood, and I’m honored to help strengthen a place where individuals and families come together to learn, grow, and thrive.”

Earlier in his career, Dolamore served in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica and as an AmeriCorps VISTA in Phoenix. These experiences shaped his lifelong commitment to volunteerism and civic engagement. He holds a Master’s in Community Planning from the University of Maryland and a B.A. from UMBC.
