The YMCA of Delaware And Nemours Children’s Health System Collaborate to Enhance the Health of Children and Families Across the State

The YMCA of Delaware is pleased to announce a new partnership with Nemours Children’s Health System. For the next three years, Nemours will provide a variety of value-added services for Y of Delaware members and the community. Some of these services include literacy assessments for children, trainings on sports injury prevention, workshops for new parents, and education around safety and nutrition. These initiatives will take place in various areas throughout the Y including before and after school programs, summer camp, KidsZone, on sports fields and at community events.

“We feel this partnership makes a lot of sense because our missions are closely aligned and we have a common focus on the health and wellness of young people,” said Deborah Bagatta-Bowles, CEO of the YMCA of Delaware. “With Nemours breadth of knowledge, expertise, and resources in the area of pediatric health and the Y’s community impact of serving over 100,000 Delawareans, this is a natural and very exciting collaboration.”

“We are excited to enter this partnership with the YMCA of Delaware,” said Michelle Shorter, Nemours Director of Community Engagement. “We share the common goal of helping children grow up healthy. By combining our efforts and resources, we have the opportunity to reach even more children and support them in achieving their fullest potential. This type of a partnership is a great example of how organizations can align similar goals to increase impact in our communities.”

About Nemours Children’s Health System

Nemours is an internationally recognized children’s health system that owns and operates the two free-standing children’s hospitals: the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Del., and Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Fla., along with outpatient facilities in five states, delivering pediatric primary, specialty and urgent care. The Nemours Children’s Health System also powers the world’s most-visited website for information on the health of children and teens, KidsHealth.org, and offers on-demand, online video patient visits through Nemours CareConnect. Nemours ReadingBrightstart.org is a program dedicated to preventing reading failure in young children, grounded in Nemours’ understanding that child health and learning are inextricably linked, and that reading level is a strong predictor of adult health.

Established as The Nemours Foundation through the legacy and philanthropy of Alfred I. duPont, Nemours provides pediatric clinical care, research, education, advocacy and prevention programs to families in the communities it serves.
